5th Annual Walk With The Stars & Move-a-thon

HELP US RAISE FUNDS TO FIND BETTER TREATMENTS AND A CURE FOR FOR SICKLE CELL DISEASE, AND TO PREVENT THE COMPLICATIONS OF THIS DISORDER THROUGH AWARENESS, ADVOCACY AND RESEARCH!

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a global health problem. It is estimated that approximately 100,000 Americans have SCD, and more than 1,000,000 worldwide have sickle cell trait. About 1,000 babies are born annually in the United States with SCD. There is no universal cure for this life-threatening disease.

The National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.'s (NBCUSA) Health and Wellness Initiative is partnering with the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Anerica, Inc. (SCDAA) in the fight against sickle cell disease, and we invite you to join our efforts at NBCUSA’s National Baptist Congress of Christian Education on Wednesday, June 20, 2018!

WALKING FOR SICKLE CELL!

Since 2011, NBCUSA and SCDAA have partnered in promoting Sickle Sabbath Sunday (Third Sunday in September) as a call to conduct sickle cell awareness and education activities. This partnership now includes a Walk-a-Thon during the NBCUSA’s National Baptist Congress of Christian Education on Wednesday, June 20, 2018. It's simple, between the hours of 6:00am-8:00am CST, you can do multiple laps around the convention center and raise funds for this important cause. Also, if you cannot participate during that time frame, you can be Virtual Walker. By registering as a Virtual Walker, you will be given a personal fundraising page to collect donations from family and friends. Invite your family and friends to walk around your local park and have a picnic. Run or walk a local race and use your fundraising page to collect donations, or you can simply participate from the comfort of your home. The possibilities are endless!

SCDAA is so excited to join together with the pastors and its members from the nation's oldest and largest African American religious convention with an estimated membership of 7.5 million. SCDAA thanks NBCUSA for its ongoing partnership, and we look forward to its members joining us  in our efforts to raise awareness about sickle cell disease!
